Making of Kinect Sports Rivals:
Kinect Sports Rivals had 150 employees. The game, originally scheduled to launch on Xbox One, was postponed from November 2013 to April 2014. Former designer Gavin Price commented on the development of the game in 2015: “During Rivals” Kinect unexpectedly stopped. I think part of that was because we missed the release date, I don’t think it did us any good! However, we managed to get a jet ski demo to bring the Xbox One to market, and we had a cloud-based avatar maker with facial recognition.
Rating Kinect Sports Rivals:
The game received average rating scores: 7.3 out of 10 from IGN, 7/10 from the official Xbox UK magazine, and 6/10 from Polygon. According to review aggregators GameRankings and Metacritic, the game averaged 64.18% and 60/100, respectively.
Cons Kinect Sports Rivals:
The Kinect Sports Rivals soccer game was the biggest disappointment. It’s more like a great foosball game than soccer, where some teammates have a hard time passing, but it’s worth a try because it strengthens your end goal. I really liked the idea on paper because for the Kinect, a full soccer game probably won’t work. The problem is that even with the Kinect calibrated in a large room, I missed a few hits completely and thought it wasn’t my fault. It’s annoying when I try to hit the ball, but my character’s legs swing on the screen like obsessive limbs. Other sports work so well that it is surprising how unreliable it is.
